John Ivory read medical sciences at Cambridge University
before completing his clinical studies at Guy's Hospital, London in 1984. He undertook his Orthopaedic training in Oxford, Leicester and Wessex.  John specialised in hip and knee surgery towards the end of his training and undertook a fellowship in arthroplasty surgery in the USA before taking up his appointment as
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Swindon in 1995.   

His qualifications include:
MBBS (London), MA Cantab, MD Leicester, FRCS Ed, FRCSEng, FRCS(Orth).

Since becoming a consultant, John has developed his expertise in hip and knee surgery.  He is a member of the following societies:

His professional activities have included being an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, Royal College of Surgeons Tutor and an education faculty member of  AO (trauma education). His  managerial experience includes having been a clinical director in the Orthopaedic Department in Swindon. He is currently a reviewer for Bone and Joint Journal and is a Royal College of Surgeons Assessor for Consultant Appointments.

John's leisure pursuits include golf, football and wine.
